OVER THE EDGE sports, UT

I don’t know how we lucked out, but when we ran across Over the Edge Sports up in Hurricane, Utah, we scored big time. We’d been researching mountain bikes for quite a while and we knew that whatever bikes we chose, we’d have them for a long long time. So we wanted to take our time and make sure we were 100% before we bought them.

As relative newbies to mountain biking, we had a lot to learn about components, options, and functionality of the various bikes. Quentin, at Over the Edge Sports, jumped right in, ready to walk us through each step of the way. But, even more importantly, he got us so stoked to ride! He didn’t care that we were beginners. In fact, I think he took that as a challenge. His goal was to take away any intimidation of riding and to help us feel comfortable and confident on our bikes. Because of that, we trusted his insight from the get-go.

Over the Edge Sports is different from your typical bike shop because they genuinely care about fueling the fire and developing a love of mountain biking for everyone that walks through their doors. Regardless of your skill level, you’re instantly part of their family and they treat you as such. They even got our boys so stoked about riding that they’ve started doing yard work for neighbors to save up for their first full-suspension bikes. That’s pretty rad!

The store is stocked with a wide variety of mountain bike essentials and non-essentials (like handmade coffee mugs…yes, please). If they don’t have the gear you’re looking for, they’ll find it. And as it should be, they walk you through the pros and cons of everything, without any pressure to purchase from them. At the end of the day though, that was the only place we wanted to go to buy our mountain bikes and gear because they cared enough to help us learn. Quentin (and his whole team!) answered every single question we had and found opportunities to teach us other cool tips and tricks that we didn’t even know were a thing. He made mountain biking feel easy and he inspired us to get on our bikes and ride.

You know what else is cool about their shop? They have a wide variety of rental bikes on hand so you can demo the bikes you’re debating between. For us, this was huge. We tried out a couple different bikes each and took them on the sweet nearby trails (Jem & Cowbell). It gave us a chance to feel how some bikes climbed or were better downhill than others. The terrain is similar to what we have in Las Vegas, Nevada so it was nice to ride trails comparable to our daily dirt. And it really helped us to narrow down which bikes we wanted. The bonus? The rental fees went towards the purchase of our bikes!

When it came time for us to purchase our Ibis Ripley’s, Quentin at Over the Edge Sports personally adjusted each of our bikes to fit our bodies perfectly. His goal was to make sure we never wanted to leave the seats of our bikes. And he succeeded at that! Mountain biking is a sport that we can do as a family and we love that about it. Whether you’re an experienced mountain biker or you’re thinking of giving it a shot, do yourself a favor and visit Over the Edge Sports in Hurricane, Utah. Their whole team makes everything easy. And fun. Plus their prices are better than the other guys (and that’s a win in our book)!
